PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on highlighted Goa’s outstanding performance in key development indicators, asserting that the state has surpassed others in per capita income, GDP, and literacy rates. Speaking at the Regional Rural Workshop 2025 organized under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana in Panaji, Sawant said Goa’s progress extends well beyond its traditional reputation as a destination for “Sun, Sand, and Sea.”
“We have introduced a fourth ‘S’ to our tourism identity—Spirituality. Goa is now actively promoting spiritual tourism as part of its evolving brand,” the Chief Minister remarked.
Despite being one of the smallest states in the country, covering just 3,702 square kilometers—comparable to the size of a single district in other states—Goa has emerged as a leader in economic and social indicators. Sawant pointed out that the state boasts a 100% literacy rate and the highest per capita income among all states in India, alongside a robust GDP growth.
Emphasizing Goa’s commitment to sustainable development, Sawant noted that the state is the first coastal region to submit an eco-sensitive zone plan to the central government, underscoring its focus on environmental protection.
Looking ahead, the Chief Minister announced the imminent launch of a subsidized housing initiative under the “Housing for All” scheme, aimed at providing affordable homes to residents. He also claimed that Goa is the first state in the country to fully implement all central government schemes, benefiting over 90% of its population.
Through his address, Sawant positioned Goa as a model state that balances economic prosperity, social advancement, and ecological responsibility, paving the way for inclusive and sustainable development.
