PANAJI: Contrary to what the State BJP and the Goa Government said about the Mhadei water diversion, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that the Goa government had been part of the decision to divert Mhadei water to Karnataka.
Addressing a rally in Karnataka’s Belagavi, Amit Shah said, “I want to congratulate the leaders and Chief Minister of Karnataka that they have taken along the Goa government on the Mhadei issue to quench the thirst of the people of Karnataka. The Chief Minister has done a great job.”
He further went on to say, “I want to remind Congress leader Sonia Gandhi of her speech in Goa, wherein she said that Mhadei water would never be allowed to be diverted.”
Again, he added, in 2022, Congress said in its manifesto that the Congress party would make sure that Karnataka does not get even a drop of water.
“I have come here to tell you that the Bharatiya Janata Party has resolved such a big dispute between the two states and given Mhadei water to Karnataka farmers and brought respite to several districts in the State,” he said.
Mhadei has been a burning issue in Goa for a month now after Central Water Commission (CWC) approved Karnata’s DPR for the Kalsa-Bhanduri project in Mhadei.
Recently, the Goa Legislative Assembly resolved to demand the withdrawal of the approval given to the Detailed project report (DPR) of Karnataka for the Mhadei water diversion.
