PANAJI:Studies have shown that students who are taught science in their own language are more likely to understand better and develop interest in science and pursue careers in science-related fields stated Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant who was speaking after inaugurating science exhibition ‘Vigyan Setu’ organized with initiative of Government High School, Kirlawada Chimbel and Government High School, Merces in collaboration with SCERT Goa at Goa Science Center, in Miramar.
The Chief Minister said this initiative will help foster science education through interactive hands-on learning, bridging the gap between Government High Schools and Primary Schools. This programme he said is to emphasize the importance of science concepts and their application to life and will create a strong foundation for scientific thinking and exploration. “For better understanding of science concepts we have to teach our children science in our own mother tongue as this will enable them to understand easily,” he said.
The Chief Minister further said that Goa is working on the Prime Minister’s concept of ‘Viksit Bharat’ therefore is striving to achieve development in the fields of science and technology. In this regard activities like organizing science exhibitions are being undertaken by the Government. The motive behind is also to inculcate scientific temper in the society as well.
Secretary Education, Shri Prasad Lolyenkar, IAS highlighting the importance of experiential learning said it is more effective and enables students to grasp easily. Therefore we have to teach our students scientific concepts in their mother tongue, he said. This makes them learn quickly. Our constitution he said upholds scientific temperament in the society teaching science to children at the primary level and this will help to inculcate scientific approach among children. Therefore scientific activities at the primary level will help bring up future scholars, he reiterated.
Head Master Vishal Signapurkar gave an overview of the launching of ‘Vigyan Setu’.
To mark the celebration of National Science Day, a science exhibition was organized in Goa Science Center. Around 32 Government Primary Schools from all over Tiswadi Taluka participated in the exhibition. The Chief Minister on this occasion released the Vigyan Setu magazine.
Head Master, Vishal Signapurkar and other teachers of Government High School Merces and Chimbel were felicitated at the hands of the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister also felicitated the team of 5 inspiring students who will lead the nation in Japan and two students whose science projects were selected were also felicitated at the hands of the Chief Minister.
