Panaji: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today led the State in paying heartfelt tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation, on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, also observed as Hutatama Diwas.
Dr. Sawant offered floral tributes in honour of the martyrs, following which the police band played the solemn Last Post. A two-minute silence was observed to commemorate the supreme sacrifice made by the nation’s heroes.
Several senior dignitaries were present on the occasion, including Chief Secretary Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS; Director General of Police Shri Alok Kumar, IPS; Collector and District Magistrate (North Goa) Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS; Shri K.R. Chaurasia, IPS; and President of the Goa, Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association, Shri Rohidas Desai, among others.
January 30 is observed across the country as Martyrs’ Day in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated on this day in 1948. The day serves as a reminder of the ideals of truth, non-violence and sacrifice that continue to inspire generations of Indians.
