PANAJI: Decks have been cleared for the formation of Goa Mineral Development Corporation as Governor PS Sreedharan grants assent for the same.
“We have received the Governor’s ascent for Goa Mining Corporation Bill; it was sent for Governor’s assent on September 1. We have plans to commence mining in the state before 2022 assembly polls,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that Goa Mineral Ore Permanent Fund will be utilised by the state government to provide relief to covid affected subject to the consent of the Supreme Court and the decision of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC).
“Of the Rs 600 crore GMOPF, 10 % can be used annually. As of now, the state has not used the fund,” he added.
The Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee had recently slammed Goa Government for notifying ‘Goa Mineral Ore Permanent Fund Trust Scheme’ without obtaining the apex court’s approval.
As per the scheme, 10 per cent of the sale proceeds of minerals sold by e-auction and pit mouth sale value will be deposited towards the welfare of people from the mining belt and for restoration of the affected areas.
