PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant held a high-level meeting with police officials following a recent accident involving a taxi and a tourist in the state.
Expressing serious concern over the incident, the Chief Minister said he has issued strict instructions to the police and the Transport Department to take a no-tolerance approach towards any law and order violations involving taxi operators.
“We will not allow such incidents to tarnish Goa’s image as a safe tourist destination,” Dr. Sawant stated.
He further announced that the state government is working on a comprehensive reform of the taxi system.
As part of the initiative, all taxi services in Goa will be brought under an app-based aggregator platform, aimed at improving accountability, transparency, and service quality for both locals and tourists.
The move is expected to streamline operations and reduce conflicts between tourists and local taxi operators, which have become a recurring concern in the state’s tourism sector.
