Panaji: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today released a Marathi book titled “Goa Annasanskruti”, published by the Department of Information and Publicity (DIP), at a function held at the Secretariat, Porvorim.
Authored by Padmashree awardee Vinayak Khedekar, the book documents the traditional culinary practices of Goa, tracing their cultural, social, and agricultural significance. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Goan traditional food culture, which, he said, is gradually eroding due to modernization.
Dr. Sawant observed that the authentic Goan cuisine—rooted in rice, coconut, and seafood—reflects the State’s rich social and cultural heritage. He urged the younger generation to take pride in Goa’s traditional food practices and integrate them into modern lifestyles. The Chief Minister also suggested that the tourism sector could play a key role in highlighting traditional Goan culinary techniques through dedicated initiatives and promotional activities.
In her keynote address, writer and social worker Shubhada Sawaikar commended Vinayak Khedekar for his meticulous documentation of Goa’s culinary heritage, noting that the book draws a strong connection between Goan social life and its food traditions. She encouraged young readers to explore the book, which captures the State’s rich food culture, agricultural practices, and traditional cooking methods.
Information Officer Kiran Munankar welcomed the gathering, while Assistant Information Officer Shyam Gaonkar was present at the event. Siddhi Upadhye compered the function, and Vinayak Khedekar proposed the vote of thanks.
