PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, while paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Old Goa on Thursday, emphasized the state government’s mission to make every Goan, village, and city self-reliant.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sawant spoke about the five-year-old Swayampurna Goa mission, which aims to ensure that no citizen is left out of government schemes such as Har Ghar Jal, Har Ghar Bijli, and Har Ghar Sauchalay. The initiative also focuses on strengthening sectors like agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, and dairy farming, providing opportunities for youth to become competent and self-sufficient.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to invest in infrastructure projects such as waste treatment plants, promoting a clean and sustainable environment. He urged citizens to participate actively in the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, linking cleanliness and environmental stewardship to a self-reliant Goa.
Dr. Sawant also announced that the Mhaje Ghar Yojna, aimed at legal recognition and regularization of unauthorized dwellings built by long-term occupants, will be launched during the Union Home Minister’s visit on October 4.
The event included religious leaders reciting verses from the Bhagwad Gita, Bible, and Quran, and bhajans performed by the Kala Academy choir. Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik, MLA Rajesh Faldessai, Dy. Sarpanch Ambar Amonkar, Zilla Panchayat President Dhaku Madkaikar, and members Siddhesh S. Naik among others attended the ceremony.
Dr. Sawant’s address framed self-sufficiency and sustainable development as integral to Goa’s future, linking national ideals celebrated on Gandhi Jayanti to practical governance initiatives benefiting every citizen.
