Panaji: In a concerted effort to boost the agricultural sector and fortify Goa’s vision of self-sufficiency, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant recently inaugurated the 2025 Buyer-Seller Meet in Sankhali. This strategic event, organized by the Directorate of Agriculture in collaboration with the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (North) and the Zonal Agriculture Office, Sankhali, kicked off on March 28, 2025. It aimed to create a vibrant marketplace where farmers could seamlessly connect with buyers, thus ensuring a stable income for local producers.
At the heart of this initiative lies the Swayampurna Goa program, which has proven instrumental in significantly reducing horticultural imports by 30%. This achievement underscores the government’s commitment to empowering farmers through comprehensive training, fair pricing mechanisms, and the adoption of cutting-edge technology. Particular emphasis was placed on organic farming with the announcement of an ₹18 crore project, backed by both the Union and State Governments, to further propel organic cultivation in Goa.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasized the importance of leveraging governmental schemes to enhance agricultural production, supporting the overarching goal of a prosperous and self-reliant Goa. During the event, CM Sawant also released a documentary titled “Mati Boltil Tewhach Sheti Fultil,” produced by the Department of Agriculture, highlighting the critical role of soil testing in improving agricultural yields.
