Sanguem:
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Monday reaffirmed the BJP’s long-standing commitment to the tribal community, declaring that tribal welfare is embedded in the party’s DNA. Speaking at a public event in Sanguem, Sawant also appeared to take a veiled dig at former MLA Prasad Gawade, without naming him.
“I may not share blood relations with the Adivasi community, but my social and emotional bond with them is strong. I am working sincerely to ensure that every welfare scheme reaches them,” Sawant said. “Many who claimed to have tribal blood ties have come and gone. I remain committed to their development.”
The remarks were made in the presence of Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, who echoed the Chief Minister’s sentiments.
“The BJP has worked to deliver justice to the Adivasis. In Goa, after former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Dr. Pramod Sawant is continuing that legacy,” Tawadkar said.
Joining the event, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram recalled the formation of the Tribal Affairs Ministry under Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
“India has many tribal communities whose issues differ from others. Congress never understood this. It was Vajpayee who recognised these challenges and created a dedicated ministry to ensure justice for them,” Oram stated.
The event, though administrative in nature, carried strong political undertones as parties begin gearing up for the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, particularly in tribal-dominated constituencies like Sanguem.
