PANJIM: Porvorim IND MLA Rohan Khaunte today has demanded that state government should immediately come out with a circular directing schools teachers to work from home.
Addressing the media, Khaunte said, “Online education is important in this times of Covid19 pandemic. It is mu humble request to Chief Minister who also holds education porfolio to come out with a circular demanding teachers to work from home.”
He said, “The cases are rising today, if by chance teachers get infected with the virus the online classes will go for a toss. strongly demand that the Teachers going to school should work from home so that we don’t have a spread in teaching fraternity which tomorrow can also hamper the online education.”
Khaunte further said that Corona has wreaked havoc with the economy and people’s lives and continues to do so. The incomes of a large majority of the population has been affected very badly. Most are deprived of their daily sources of earnings, many have lost jobs or are being paid minimal salaries thus disturbing balance of the household budget. It’s in this scenario that the school/college fees are invoking a big burden on the families.
“It’s true that the School & College Managements too are affected to a certain extent but it needs to be appreciated that the infrastructure, maintenance and utilities costs are minimised in wake of Online Education . This outlook should enable Managements to trim or delay fees payment to a certain extent which will bring a big relief to the cash strapped families in most low income groups.” he said
Khaunte said that the government should also look into the matter and impose a moratorium on fee hike and also issue directives to enable deferred payment of fees. The CMOs could also explore the possibility of reduction in fee structure in view of the fact that the educational institutions are not incurring regular infrastructure & operational costs.
Meanwhile, Khaunte has requested the CM who’s also holding the Education portfolio to hold discussions on the subject with a view to ease the burdens of families without causing much impact on the institutions.
“The Government could even consider a lump sum grant to those institutions that reduce fees and act in similar ways that would ease the financial burden of fees on students families.” he said
