PANJIM: Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik today said that Chief Minister is taking all the necessary steps to resume mining in the state through political and judicial moves.
Malik also said that resumption of iron ore mining activities is very important to restart development works.
“Panchayats had bried me about their problems caused due to ban on mining. Many people who were dependent had to face many issues. I told them CM Sawant is trying hard to resume mining through political and judicial moves.” said Malik
He said, “I am satisfied with his attempts made by Chief Minister Sawant and I am also there to support him on this cause. I cannot comment anything on the court matter. Goa Governments stand is valid and let us hope that court understands it.”
The governor further informed that that resumption of iron ore mining activities in Goa is very important to restart development works.
“Goa doesn’t have many revenue resources and mining was the biggest revune for the state government. After mining was shut many developmental works have been been suffered.” malik added.
Looking for immediate relief, 26 village panchayats from the mining belt have approached the Supreme Court with an interlocutory application (IA) seeking impleadment in the Goa mining case, which has been listed for hearing on August 18.
The representatives, along with their counsel on Thursday had called on Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik seeking his intervention to urge the Central government for steps towards immediate resumption of mining activities, claiming that the closure of the industry has taken a toll on the ‘economic and mental health of the people dependent on the industry’.
