Canacona: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant will inaugurate the newly constructed three-storey Administrative-cum-Commercial building of the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) at Chaudi on Friday.
The announcement was made during a press meet held at the temporary municipal office at Char-Rasta by CMC Chairperson Laxuman Pagui, along with Vice-Chairperson Gandesh Madganvkar.
The inauguration will take place in the presence of Urban Development Minister Vishwajeet Rane and Arts and Culture Minister as well as Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar.
The foundation stone for the new building was laid in October 2020 by the then Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, to replace the old Portuguese-era municipal structure. However, the actual construction work commenced in 2022.
Constructed at a cost of approximately ₹11 crore, the modern building houses municipal offices, a conference hall, a 650-capacity hall, and commercial spaces including shops.
According to municipal officials, the new premises will provide modern office facilities for municipal staff and improved services for citizens visiting the council for official work.
Ward Councillor Ramakant Naik Gaunkar said the new building will enable citizens to complete their municipal-related work smoothly without physical hindrances, ensuring better accessibility and convenience.
