Panaji: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has called upon newly elected Zilla Parishad members to work with dedication to make Goa self-reliant by 2037, with a strong focus on village-centric and sustainable development.
Addressing the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected Zilla Parishad members, organised by the Directorate of Panchayat at the Secretariat in Porvorim, the Chief Minister said ZP members have a crucial role in realising the Government’s vision of a self-reliant Goa. The oath was administered by Director of Panchayat Shri Narayan Arondekar.
On the occasion, Dr Sawant also announced the creation of a third district named Kushavati, comprising the four talukas of Quepem, Canacona, Dharbandora and Sanguem.
Exhorting the newly elected members, the Chief Minister urged them to rise above party affiliations and work without bias for the development of their villages. “Do not forget that you have been elected to undertake the development of your village,” he said, advising members to assist people and resolve their issues at the administrative level. He noted that ZP members serve as a vital link between the people and their MLAs and should actively support constituency-level development.
Dr Sawant further encouraged members to focus on meaningful and large-scale development projects rather than limiting themselves to routine works such as laying pavers or desilting. He reiterated that the Government functions on the principles of Antyodaya, Sarvodaya and Gramodaya, aimed at strengthening rural Goa.
Minister for Panchayat Shri Mauvin Godinho, while congratulating the newly elected ZP members, urged them to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people who elected them. He appealed for collective efforts towards transparent, corruption-free and people-centric governance.
During the function, Smt Reshma Sandeep Bandodkar was sworn in as President and Shri Namdev Chari as Vice-President of the North Goa Zilla Parishad, while Shri Siddharth Gaus Desai took oath as President and Smt Anjali Arjun Velip as Vice-President of the South Goa Zilla Parishad.
