PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday appealed to the public not to panic or hoard LPG cylinders, assuring that the situation will be normalised within about 25 days.
The issue was raised in the Assembly after Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao expressed concern over the shortage of LPG cylinders in the state. Alemao said people were worried as long queues were seen outside LPG agency outlets, with many residents trying to secure cylinders amid fears of a shortage.
Several MLAs also raised concerns regarding the availability of LPG cylinders across the state.
Responding to the issue, the Chief Minister clarified that domestic LPG cylinders are available and there is no shortage, but acknowledged that the supply of commercial LPG has been affected.
Sawant said the Union Ministry is already addressing the issue, while the state government is in touch with the Government of India to obtain a report and ensure that the supply situation improves soon.
He also said the state government is working on solutions for students living in hostels, who may be facing difficulties due to the disruption in commercial gas supply.
Reassuring citizens, the Chief Minister urged people not to indulge in panic buying, stating that necessary steps are being taken to stabilise the supply chain.
