Panaji: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant issued a stern warning to government servants, cautioning them against falling prey to external benefits, inducements or influence while discharging their duties.
Emphasising accountability in public service, the Chief Minister revealed that around 20 government officers have already been suspended for misconduct.
Addressing officials and youth, Dr Sawant said government employees are not merely servants of the government but public servants answerable to the people.
“Those in service must remember that they are accountable to society. Any deviation from duty or ethics will invite strict action,” he said.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to transparency, the Chief Minister asserted that staff recruitment will always be carried out strictly on merit. He cautioned job aspirants against falling for false promises made by middlemen.
“If any ‘chiri meri’ claims they can get you a government job, do not believe them. There is no place for such practices,” Dr Sawant said.
Referring to his previous tenure, the Chief Minister expressed concern over instances where young recruits, after securing government jobs at an early age, misused their positions.
“I have seen cases where youngsters make serious mistakes after getting good government jobs, and later their parents come to me to apologise. This should not happen,” he remarked.
Issuing a direct message to the youth, Dr Sawant said securing a government job comes with responsibility and discipline. “After getting a good government job, do your work honestly and responsibly. If you fail to do so, I will not hesitate to take action,” he warned.
