Colva: Sarpanchas from the coastal belt, including Benaulim, Varca, Orlim, Cavelossim, and Carmona, met Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio, to submit a memorandum demanding a new police station for the Colva area. They highlighted the deplorable condition of the existing Colva Police Station and stressed the urgent need for improved infrastructure in this key tourist region.
Benaulim Sarpanch Xavier Ambrose stated that the current Colva Police Station operates out of a private house and lacks even basic amenities. “Being a touristic belt, we cannot afford to have such poor facilities for law enforcement,” he said.
Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz echoed similar concerns, stating, “We have urged the Hon’ble Chief Minister to visit the current Colva police station. He will be shocked to see the condition it is in—it lacks space, infrastructure, and basic facilities.”
Orlim Sarpanch Simon Pereira, Carmona Sarpanch Sandra Martins, and Varca Deputy Sarpanch Solan Furtado were also part of the delegation that met the CM. They collectively demanded immediate intervention, noting that the current state of the police station fails to meet the needs of both locals and tourists in the region.
The Chief Minister has assured the sarpanchas that their concerns will be looked into.
