VASCO: A Coconut tree which was uprooted amongst string gusts of winds fell on a house at Velsao damaging the roofs and other parts of the house on Wednesday afternoon
However, fortunately, a senior citizen lady in the house during the incident escaped without any injuries
According to Velsao Panch Jim D’Souza, the incident occurred at around 1.30 pm at Kantem Bellem in the Velsao panchayat jurisdiction.
“The house belongs to one Ramakant Goankar and the incident has damaged the roofs and other parts of the house. Fortunately, a senior citizen Shobhavati Goankar who was in the house during the incident escaped unhurt. It was a lucky escape for her because the coconut tree fell on a nearby breadfruit tree before crashing into the house with reduced force. The family has been expressing a lot of concerns about the coconut tree and has been worried about it for the last few days. Their fear came true after the coconut tree fell in reality on their house on Wednesday” said DSouza.
D’Souza said that with a narrow internal road leading to the house, they had to rely on local tree cutters to clear the tree from the roof of the house
“When I was informed of the incident, I immediately got in touch with another ward Panch member Rememdios Noronha who rushed to the site with a tree-cutting machine and labourers. We had to manually clear the trees from the roof of the house. The roof has been damaged due to the incident and I request the authorities to offer the family some kind of compensation due to the incident. The family has now put up an application to cut another dangerous tree next to their house as they fear that the tree is weak and can come crashing on their house. We will get the issue resolved through the Panchayat soon ” said D Souza.
