Panaji:The Coelho siblings once again asserted their dominance on the national sailing stage, delivering standout performances at the SAIL India 2026 All India National Sailing Championships held at Chowpatty in Mumbai. Competing against the country’s top sailors, Dayne and Katya Coelho secured gold medals in the senior category of the IQ Foil windsurfing event, reaffirming their status among India’s elite sailors.
Dayne Coelho’s victory came after a tense and closely fought contest that kept spectators engaged until the very last race. Trailing in second position until the penultimate day, Dayne mounted a determined comeback to challenge Aditya Sangwan for the top spot. Both sailors entered the final race level on points, setting up a dramatic finish. Displaying composure under pressure and tactical precision, Dayne managed to hold off Sangwan in the decisive race, clinching the gold medal by a narrow margin of one point.
Katya Coelho, meanwhile, delivered a commanding performance throughout the championship. From the opening day, she maintained consistency and control, steadily building an unassailable lead over the rest of the fleet. Her confident sailing and strong race management saw her secure the senior women’s gold medal with a comfortable six point advantage, leaving little doubt about her dominance in the category.
Adding an exciting new chapter to the championships was the performance of young Stefano Alvares, who delivered one of the biggest surprises of the event. Having taken up windsurfing just ten months ago, Stefano exceeded all expectations by winning the silver medal in the under 19 youth category. His rapid rise and fearless approach on the water drew widespread attention and marked him as a promising talent for the future of Indian sailing.
Together, the results highlighted both the sustained excellence of established champions and the emergence of new contenders, making the SAIL India 2026 championships a memorable showcase of skill, determination, and growing depth in Indian windsurfing.
