PANAJI; Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte chaired a meeting with shop owners at Colva Beach to discuss the proposed developments under the first phase of the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (Coastal Circuit) project.
Khaunte highlighted that Colva remains one of the most popular destinations in South Goa, attracting both domestic and international tourists annually. He noted that current structures, including the shopping area and other facilities, are in poor condition and require urgent redevelopment to enhance the visitor experience.
A comprehensive masterplan has been prepared, featuring upgraded infrastructure and modern amenities. To minimize disruption during construction, existing shopkeepers will be temporarily relocated to specially designed container spaces until redevelopment is completed.
“The government is committed to upgrading Colva while ensuring local stakeholders’ interests are protected. The relocation is temporary, and amenities will be restored to support both visitors and shop owners,” Khaunte said, emphasizing the importance of preserving the livelihood of shopkeepers who have spent decades in the area.
The meeting was attended by MLA of Benaulim Venzy Viegas, GTDC Managing Director Kuldeep Arolkar, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism Diksha Tari, representatives of the Colva Panchayat, and other tourism officials.
The first phase of the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 project at Colva Beach will include development of an Arrival Avenue, a pedestrian bridge, shopping and food plaza redevelopment, a tourist security block with CCTV, upgraded infrastructure, improved signage and street furniture, and other modern amenities.
The interaction reflects the government’s inclusive approach, engaging shop owners and local stakeholders in shaping the redevelopment of one of Goa’s key tourist destinations.
