COLVA: Hundreds of villagers from Colva gathered at the Colva Police Station, along with MLA Venzy Viegas and former MLA Warren Alemao, demanding action against Colva Police Inspector Vikram Naik over his alleged visit to the Colva Church with heavy police force.
Following the tense protest, Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai assured the crowd that PI Naik would be transferred and a new officer appointed, bringing temporary calm to the situation.
MLA Venzy Viegas said he had already raised the issue with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, alleging that the Colva PI had failed to deliver justice to local residents.
“I have already taken up the matter with the Chief Minister, as the PI is not delivering justice to the locals,” Viegas said, questioning why the officer continued at Colva Police Station despite a transfer order.
Viegas also stated that the matter had been raised in the Assembly, yet no action had followed. “Even in the Assembly, the issue was raised. Despite the transfer order, why is the Colva PI still at the Colva Police Station? After all this, why is he still in position?” he asked, adding that protesters were demanding the immediate suspension and dismissal of the Colva PI.
Warren Alemao echoed the concerns of the villagers, saying the incident had hurt public sentiment and trust in the police. Protesters insisted on a public apology and warned of intensified agitation if firm action was not taken. The police assured the gathering that their demands would be conveyed to higher authorities and addressed at the earliest.
