COLVALE: In a major lapse at Colvale Central Jail, job scam accused Puja Naik was mistakenly released after securing bail in one of the cases, despite her judicial custody continuing in other pending matters. The error came to light shortly after her release.
Sources said Naik spent a few hours outside before authorities realised that she was still required to remain in custody in connection with additional cases. Jail officials then contacted her and she was subsequently brought back to the prison.
The incident has triggered concern over procedural checks followed during inmate releases. Following the goof-up, a show-cause notice has been issued to a senior jail officer, seeking an explanation for the oversight.
Authorities are expected to review internal procedures to prevent such lapses in future, while further inquiry into the incident is underway.
