CANACONA The approximately 21 Crore worth Gaunem dam completed nearly 10-years ago in the Gaondongrim village of Canacona taluka , is finally set for commissioning with the launch of tendering process of the Dam’s key and important related Water Treatment Plant and its allied necessities.
According to sources in the office of GLA Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar held a high level meeting on the sidelines of the recent assembly session, to ensure progress of crucial development projects. ‘As a result, the tender process has been completed for the comprehensive water supply project, marking a significant step towards providing clean and safe drinking water to all Canconkars’, states the source.
Collection of water from Gavnem Dam downstream, into a newly constructed sump and pumphouse, along with a 1 km raw water pumping main, Construction of a 5 MLD conventional water treatment plant, a laboratory-cum-office building, an 11 kV transformer, solar-powered electricity, pumphouses, an approach road, landscaping, and a 2000 cubic meter storage facility are reportedly tendered and processed.
Laying of the conveying main from the plant to Karvem GLR and distribution of water to Gaondongrem, Cotigao, and parts of Poinguinim will be guaranteed once these works are completed.
The sources further adds that the Speaker’s continuous efforts to ensure clean water for all Canconkars are now turning into reality, bringing a healthier and self-sufficient Canacona.
Incidentally, the Gaunem dam which was initially estimated at Rs.13.24 Cr is completed at final cost of Rs.21c Cr.
