Team Goemkarponn
PANAJI: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has reiterated his firm commitment to ensuring safe and quality food for every Goan. This statement follows a rigorous evening surveillance operation conducted by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) across several key locations in the state. The FDA team, led by Director Shweta Dessai and consisting of Richard Noronha, Sneha Gaude, Sujata Shetgaonkar, Amit Mandrekar, and Lenin de Sa, carried out inspections at Mapusa Sub Yard, Canca Verla, Calangute, and Canca Market. During the operation, a total of 14 premises were inspected, and six banana samples were drawn from the Mapusa Yard for analysis to ensure their quality. In addition to these inspections, the team discovered misbranded confectionery being sold as chocolate by a major distributor; the products were immediately detained, and samples were sent for further analysis. As part of the enforcement efforts, four restaurants—two in Calangute and two in Canca—were ordered to shut down due to food safety violations. Furthermore, Ms. Walke Express was fined ₹20,000 for operating in unhygienic conditions, underscoring the FDA’s strict stance on maintaining cleanliness in food establishments. Minister Rane emphasized that these actions reflect the government’s unwavering determination to uphold food safety standards across Goa and protect the health of its citizens.
