CURTORIM: A complaint has been filed at the Maina Curtorim Police Station seeking registration of an FIR against two residents of Guirdolim, Chandor, for alleged acts of animal cruelty and harassment of community animal feeders.
According to the complaint lodged by Saifali Noorani, Mr. Bhimaji and his son Mr. Shimeji Hiranwale, residents of House No. 410, Guirdolim, Chandor, have allegedly committed repeated acts of cruelty against community dogs within the jurisdiction of Maina Curtorim Police Station. The complainant has alleged that their actions caused unnecessary pain, suffering, fear and distress to the animals.
The complaint states that a total of seven community dogs were injured due to the alleged acts of cruelty. Medical bills and other supporting documents pertaining to the injured animals have reportedly been submitted to the police.
It has further been alleged that the accused have been continuously harassing, intimidating and obstructing Mr. and Mrs. D’Souza, who are stated to be lawful and genuine feeders and caregivers of the community dogs. The caregivers are said to be spending their personal time, effort and money for the welfare and health of the animals.
As per the complaint, the accused allegedly issued verbal threats, interfered with feeding activities and engaged in behaviour intended to drive away or harm the community animals, creating an atmosphere of hostility and fear in the area. The complainant has requested police action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Police are expected to examine the complaint and attached documents and take further action as per law.
