The World Diabetes Day is marked every year on 14th November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered the insulin along with Charles Herbert best in 1922. The theme for World Diabetes day this year is “Education to protect tomorrow.“ More than 500 million people suffer from Diabetes across the globe. To protect the patients and the general population from the disease & its complications, education about the disease becomes very important part.
While the healthcare professionals manage the diabetes of the patients, the diabetes educator can empower these patients to manage their own diabetes.
We at the Diabetes Specialty Centre at Victor Hospital, provide a comprehensive solution towards the treatment of diabetes. The certified diabetes educator and nutritionist play a major role in educating the patient about the disease, its complications and the management of the disease, emphasizing more on diet and lifestyle modifications.
As a part of the education about the disease, the patient is also well explained the role of self-monitoring of blood glucose, insulin injection techniques and carbohydrate counting which helps them to deal with the disease in a better way. Another key part of the diabetes educator, is to create awareness of the complications of the disease and its regular screening.
On the World diabetes day, lets pledge to work ahead towards the better education of the disease and improve the quality of life.
