VASCO: Vasco Congress party minority cell leaders protested and raised the issue of a 12-years long-pending Chief Officer’s bungalow project.
Congressmen feel that Mormugao Municipal Council has taken Vasco locals for granted.
On Thursday, Vasco Congress minority cell leaders gathered at the site where the foundation stone for the Chief Officer’s bungalow project was laid down by the late Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar. The project was boasted to be the dream project of late Parrikar, but it never saw the day of the light after 12 years.
Nasir Khan, president of the Congress party minority cell, condemned the inefficiency and neglect of the MMC for its failure to bring the Chief Officer’s bungalow to the site.
He further said that presently a temporary metallic shed has been erected at the site, and on the other side of the plot, the hip of garbage and old abandoned tracks are seen.
The purpose of this site was to have a Chief Officer’s bungalow, and what the MMC is planning to do here, we don’t know,’ he said.
Khan further demanded before MMC to build the officer’s bungalow project.
Another Congress leader Elvino Araujo said that the foundation stone of this Chief Officer’s bungalow project was laid 12 years ago by the then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. The project was supposed to be completed within two years, but unfortunately, this site has turned into a waste dumping site for the people.
When questioned about what the Congress party has done about this pending issue, Araujo replied that several reminder letters in this regard were addressed to the MMC, but nothing has been done about it.
He also said that it feels that Mormugao Municipal Council has taken the people of Vasco for granted. In fact, the council should have worked in the interest of the local people,” he added.
Information reveals the Chief Officer’s bungalow is a commercial project with several offices and shops that will be given on a monthly rent.
Further, a residential place will be made for the stay of the Chief officer too. The Goa State Urban Development Agency will re-prepare a plan, and the contractor will be appointed soon to take up the project work,” sources added.
