MARGAO: The Margao Congress Block has alleged serious lapses in the recent recruitment process of the Margao Municipal Council, claiming that hundreds of job aspirants were deprived of the opportunity to appear for the written test as they did not receive their admit cards.
Addressing a press conference, Congress Block Convener Savio Coutinho said that the low turnout of less than 50 per cent for the written examination clearly showed that many candidates were deliberately left out. He alleged that instead of sending admit cards by email at negligible cost, the Council chose ordinary post, which enabled vested interests to withhold them. “This was done with a hidden agenda to deprive deserving candidates of their right to attend the written test,” Coutinho charged, while demanding a thorough inquiry into the lapses.
Congress leaders Lincoln Gomes, Damodar Onskar, Camilo Camara, Anwar Naroo, Iftiyaz Shaik, Aziz Shah, Zacarias Goes and Aneil Alvares were also present at the briefing. Gomes appealed to the youth to resist attempts by “unscrupulous politicians” to deny them jobs, questioning whether the Margao MLA planned to begin his new tenure with what he termed as a job scam.
The Congress assured that it would stand firmly by the job aspirants and press for justice.
