CANACONA: Congress leaders intensified their outreach in Curchorem, Sanvordem, and Sanguem as part of the Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan, listening to residents’ grievances and pledging solutions to long-standing issues.
In meetings with party workers and supporters, Congress leaders heard widespread frustration over the BJP government’s handling of mining resumption, with locals accusing it of making empty promises while families who depended on the industry continue to struggle.
Youth unemployment, crumbling roads, poor garbage collection, and opposition to the proposed Sagarmala jetty in Sanvordem were also prominent concerns raised by the public. Party leaders said these issues reflected broader governance failures and alleged that the BJP had betrayed voters by encouraging defections and undermining democracy for its own benefit.
Congress leaders reassured residents that they would prioritize mining resumption in a sustainable way, address infrastructure challenges, and work with communities to oppose projects seen as harmful to local interests. “This belt has been let down repeatedly. We’re here to listen, work with you, and bring change,” leaders told supporters.
The meeting in Curchorem saw strong participation from party members, with GPCC President Amit Patkar, South Goa MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes, MLA Altone D’Costa, Dr. Pratiksha Khalap, Nitin Chopdekar, Mahesh Nadar, and other leaders in attendance. They thanked local workers for their dedication and expressed confidence that growing support in these constituencies would help Congress stage a strong comeback in Goa.
