MARGAO: Congress leader Savio Coutinho has strongly criticized the BJP for moving a no-confidence motion against the newly elected Sarpanch of Davorlim-Dicarpale Village Panchayat within hours of the election. He described the move as a “most condemnable act” by BJP forces, drawing parallels with the Margao Municipal Council Chairperson election two years ago.
Coutinho accused the BJP of being “desperate for power at every level of administration” to pursue wrongdoings. He alleged that the party initially manipulated the conduct of Sarpanch elections and, after facing defeat, activated machinery to destabilize the Panchayat body.
He further charged the BJP government, which often highlights its commitment to effective grassroots governance, of undermining the democratic setup provided by the Constitution.
Coutinho warned that the general public is closely observing the alleged political maneuvering by the BJP and local MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, and suggested that voters would hold them accountable in the forthcoming Zilla Panchayat and Assembly elections.
