PANAJI: The Goa Pradesh Congress conducted a plantation drive to commemorate World Environment Day on 5 June. Congress leaders GPCC President Amit Patkar, MLA Sankalp Amonkar, South district president Savio Dsilva, Capt Viriato Fernandes, Olencio Simoes, Rajesh Verenkar, Moreno Rebello and others participated in the drive at the location where the massive destruction of tree cutting had taken place in Mollem.
Speaking on occasion, GPCC President said, “Congress will raise their voice wherever there is wrongdoing against the Government.
“On world environment day, I ask all Goans to plant a tree in their vicinity and ensure it’s looked after,” he said. He appealed to all the citizens to ensure less use of plastic wherever possible and not litter.
He felicitated Krishna Zore for his excellent movement on saving Mollem through the agitation.
Patkar praised Krishna Zore, who can be a role model to all the youth of Goa. Zore is an IIT graduate and currently works for MNC, which works for Defence projects.
Such youth who care about Goa can only Save Goa, he said.
He further said, “We have to look beyond political lines and try to save our planet from climate change to make it safe and green for the generations to come”.
“Climate change is happening fast, and responsible citizens must come forward and take care of our environment. We have to look for alternatives like renewable, green Energy. Also, the Government should be serious and start trying to use Solar Energy for various Govt projects. We have to stop conventional sources and try to use technology and innovations. We will hold workshops in the coming days to educate communities about Climate change,” he elaborated.
He added that the Congress leaders will take up plantation drives the entire month across Goa. The team paid a visit to the Bhagwan Mahavir statue and sought blessings by garlanding the same.
