Aam Aadmi Party is emerging as a strong favourite in Goa falling a few inches short of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party while Congress appears to be totally decimated in the State as per a survey conducted by India Ahead news channel.
AAP spokesperson Adv Surel Tilve disclosed that though BJP is leading in current survey, the tables will turn as elections come closer and AAP will definitely be on top. AAP is emerging as a strong second choice just lagging behind the ruling party by a few percentile points.
“Goans have realized that voting for Congress is as good as voting for BJP as it sends its elected MLAs to the BJP,” said Surel while pointing out that after the last assembly elections the Congress has gifted 17 of its MLAs to the BJP which is ruling the state at the moment.
He pointed out that 32 per cent Goans look at Arvind Kejriwal as the most favourite politician primarily because of the changes he has brought about in Delhi and free electricity, water, education and health care AAP has provided to people in Delhi.
Besides 22 per cent Goans said they would vote for AAP at the next assembly elections. “If these are the figures 14 months prior to the elections one can be assured that AAP will cover the remaining ground and get more votes than the BJP,” he said.
Surel asserted that AAP is the only opposition party in Goa as the Congress has become literally defunct and people have lost faith in the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party or the Goa Forward Party for that matter.
While pointing out that the difference between BJP and AAP is barely 10 percentile points amongst Goans when asked which party they would vote for, Surel said it was clear that the battle at the next elections will be between BJP and AAP.
He further pointed out that 10 per cent Goans though Congress would form the next government in Goa while 28 per cent said AAP would form the next government. Even more noteworthy is that only 11 per cent Goans considered Rahul Gandhi to be a popular leader while a whopping 32 per cent opted for Arvind Kejriwal.
“Hence going by the findings of the survey it is very clear that AAP is on the upswing, BJP is on the downslide and with Congress decimated AAP will form the next government in Goa,” he said.
