Panaji: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has lashed out at Power Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar for allegedly misleading the public over the proposed 20% electricity tariff hike and for making derogatory remarks against the media and Opposition.
In a statement issued on Monday, GPCC Media Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar condemned what he described as the Minister’s “irresponsible and misleading” comments. Panjikar said Dhavalikar had initially announced a 20% power tariff hike between 5 pm and 9 am, but later “took a complete U-turn” and accused the media of misreporting his statement.
“It is extremely unfortunate that a senior BJP minister is trying to deceive Goans by denying his own words, which were clearly recorded and circulated in the media. His video bite is proof of what he said. Blaming journalists only exposes the arrogance and dishonesty of this government,” Panjikar said.
He accused Dhavalikar of attempting to cover up administrative failures instead of accepting responsibility and apologising. “The BJP Government has already burdened Goans with high electricity bills, fuel prices and inflation. Now, by issuing false denials, it is trying to fool people again,” he added.
Panjikar demanded that Dhavalikar tender an apology to the media for wrongly blaming them and to the Opposition for using “uncivil and insulting” language such as murkh and bekar padlya during his press conference. “Such remarks are unbecoming of a senior minister and reflect the frustration of a failed government,” he said.
“The people of Goa are watching. No amount of lies or U-turns can restore the credibility this government has already lost,” Panjikar concluded.
