PANAJI: The Congress high command has directed its Goa unit to step up preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections, calling for a stronger organisational push and an aggressive campaign to highlight what it described as corruption and governance failures under BJP rule at both the State and national levels.
These directions were conveyed during a key meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday, chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leader Rahul Gandhi, and AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal. The meeting was attended by Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakare, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao, and Congress Working Committee member Girish Chodankar.
During the discussions, central leaders reviewed the prevailing political situation in Goa and assessed the party’s organisational health. Emphasis was laid on strengthening the party structure by clearly defining roles and responsibilities of office bearers to enhance accountability, trust, and grassroots engagement.
The leadership underlined the need to take issues of alleged corruption and administrative shortcomings directly to the public, urging the State unit to create widespread awareness through sustained outreach and mobilisation.
Speaking after the meeting, GPCC president Amit Patkar said the deliberations covered both political strategy and organisational preparedness. He noted that the leadership stressed the importance of systematically exposing corruption and gearing up early for the forthcoming elections.
With the Assembly polls roughly a year away, the national leadership used the meeting to take stock of the party’s readiness in Goa and advised the State unit to intensify efforts on the ground. Party leaders also highlighted the importance of internal unity, stressing that cohesion within the ranks would be critical going forward.
It was agreed that the Congress must project itself as a credible alternative to the BJP by focusing on issues that have a direct impact on people’s daily lives. With a broad roadmap now outlined for 2027, the Goa Congress has been asked to translate the guidance into concrete action, with the coming months likely to witness a more assertive political campaign by the opposition party in the State.
