FATORDA: The four-day Carnival organised by Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai under the “We for Fatorda” banner kicked off on Saturday with a strong political undertone, as senior Congress leaders shared the stage, hinting at a potential alliance for the 2027 Assembly elections.
Addressing the crowd, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar confidently declared that the Congress and Goa Forward Party were poised to form the next government in Goa, a statement widely interpreted as a strategic political signal during the festive celebrations.
Sardesai, leveraging the cultural platform to highlight political issues, called for the BJP-led government to be voted out in 2027, asserting that Goans abroad should be granted dual citizenship.
He warned that if the BJP failed to address the demand, voters should “show them the door.”
“If Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot fulfill the expectations of the Goan diaspora, we will find a way to provide dual citizenship to Goans abroad. First, we must remove the BJP and form the government,” Sardesai said.
He also noted the participation of Congress leaders, including Manikrao Thakare and Youth Congress President Archit Naik, as a sign of growing coordination between the parties.
The Carnival saw further high-profile participation, including former UK MP Keith Vaz, highlighting a united opposition front.
Sardesai emphasised the urgency of political action, stating that this year could determine Goa’s future and pressing for prompt decisions to “save Goa for posterity.”
With political messaging taking centre stage at the Fatorda Carnival, the event has intensified momentum for opposition consolidation ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
