MORMUGAO: The Mormugao Congress launched the ‘Vote Chori’ signature campaign at Baina to create awareness among voters about alleged manipulations and removal of names from the electoral rolls. The campaign aims to encourage citizens to verify their voter details and stay alert against any irregularities ahead of upcoming elections.
The initiative was led by OBC Chairman and former Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Nitin Chopdekar, along with other Congress leaders from the constituency. Chopdekar said the campaign had received a strong response from local residents.
“Across the country, our leader Rahul Gandhi has highlighted how voter lists are being manipulated — with living people marked as dead and vice versa — to influence election outcomes. Congress had secured a majority in Haryana and Maharashtra, but the BJP used such tactics to distort the results. Rahul Gandhi exposed how 400 voters were shown in a single room and brought this issue to the Election Commission’s attention,” Chopdekar said.
He added that the ongoing ‘Vote Chori’ campaign seeks to make people aware of such alleged irregularities. “We are urging citizens to verify their names on the electoral roll and stay alert. If anyone finds errors, we will help them get it corrected immediately, as voting is every citizen’s right in a democracy,” Chopdekar stated.
