Panaji: In a political development in Goa, Congress leader Mamata Maben resigned as the South Goa Mahila Congress District President and joined the Aam Aadmi Party during a joining ceremony held in Panaji.
Maben formally joined the party in the presence of Goa AAP president Valmiki Naik and Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar Dessai.
Speaking on the occasion, Maben said she was motivated to join AAP due to the party’s grassroots work in the health sector, its focus on honest politics, and the responsibility it entrusts to women leaders.
She also expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of the Indian National Congress, stating that she was not involved in decisions taken in her own constituency of Ponda.
“If I am not involved in decisions in my own constituency, what is the use of working in Congress and serving as South Goa Mahila President? If democracy is not practiced within the party, how will Congress ensure democracy for the people of Goa?” Maben said.
Welcoming her into the party fold, AAP leaders stated that her experience and strong grassroots connect would help strengthen the party’s outreach and organisational work in South Goa.
