CANACONA: Congress leaders led by former Canacona Congress candidate Janardhan S. Bhandari gheraoed the Assistant Engineer of the Electricity Department in Canacona, raising strong objections over what they termed as faulty and excessive electricity bills issued to consumers.
Bhandari, along with JanaSena Warriors and Citizens of Canacona, met the Electricity Department officials and demanded immediate corrective measures to address the issue, stating that residents are facing severe hardship due to inflated bills.
“People across Goa are witnessing an unexpected surge in electricity bills, placing heavy financial pressure on common families,” Bhandari said, urging the department to resolve the matter at the earliest.
South Goa GPYC District President Prahlay Bhagat said that leaders of the Indian National Congress staged the gherao to seek immediate clarification on the sudden hike in bills. He demanded a thorough investigation into billing discrepancies, relief for affected consumers, and greater transparency from the department.
“The people of Goa deserve answers, not inflated bills,” Bhagat asserted.
Warning of intensified agitation, Bhandari said that if the issue is not resolved promptly, stronger action would follow.
Others present during the protest included Ramu Naik (Ex-Sarpanch, VP Shristal), Pramod Phaldesai (Ex-Sarpanch, VP Agonda), Sanjhu Naik (Ex-Dy Sarpanch, VP Shristal), Sidharth Bhandari, Navadeep Phaldesai, Sarvanand Komarpant, Vaishal Pagi, Jayesh Naik, Delis Fernandes, Kiran Zore, Sandeep Zore and Vithal Zore, among others. – END
