PANAJI: The Congress party has made it clear that it will not join hands with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections in Goa, scheduled to be held on December 13.
AICC Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakare announced that the Congress has set up a high-level coordination committee of senior leaders to chalk out the party’s election strategy and take a call on alliances, if necessary.
The committee includes GPCC president Amit Patkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, CWC member Girish Chodankar, South Goa MP Capt Viriato Fernandes, MLAs Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira and Altone D’Costa, along with Senior Vice President M K Shaikh.
Speaking at a press briefing, Thakare firmly dismissed any possibility of aligning with AAP for the polls. “There is no question of forming an alliance with AAP. How can we collaborate with a party that continuously targets Congress and its leadership?” he said.
Thakare added that the newly formed committee will finalise the ZP election roadmap, including whether the Congress will contest all seats independently. “The panel will hold discussions with grassroots workers and submit its recommendations. Based on that, the party leadership will take a final decision,” he stated.
