Panaji: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has written to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) demanding immediate disciplinary action against Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, accusing him of engaging in repeated anti-party activities.
In a strongly worded letter, GPCC President Amit Patkar alleged that Ferreira’s actions have been “distressing and demoralising” for party workers and supporters. The immediate provocation was Ferreira’s attendance at the birthday celebration of former BJP minister Nilesh Cabral on July 10, while skipping a Congress-organised event in the same constituency.
Patkar further claimed that Ferreira’s participation in BJP and government functions points to a “pattern of anti-party conduct.” He urged AICC Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakare and AICC Secretary Anjali Nimbalkar to initiate strict disciplinary proceedings.
“This is not an isolated incident. It reflects a consistent disregard for party values and discipline,” Patkar said, referring to an earlier complaint against Ferreira submitted in December 2023.
Reacting to the letter, Thakare confirmed its receipt. “I have got the letter but haven’t gone through it in detail yet. I will decide on its merits after reviewing it,” he said.
The development comes ahead of the monsoon session of the Goa Assembly, at a time when concerns are mounting over the lack of coordination between Congress and its ally, the Goa Forward Party, in challenging the BJP-led government.
The GPCC’s call for action underscores internal tensions and highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining opposition unity in the state.
