PANAJI: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government, blaming it for the severe flooding and chaos caused by recent rains, and accusing Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant of presiding over a failed disaster management system. Amarnath Panjikar, Chairman of the GPCC Media Department, said the situation was not the result of a natural calamity, but a “government-made disaster” stemming from negligence, corruption, and a complete breakdown of basic governance. Panjikar criticized the administration’s lack of preparedness, calling the drainage cleaning and flood mitigation efforts “mere publicity exercises” that failed to deliver any real protection to citizens. He alleged that despite crores being spent on Smart City projects, cyclone preparedness, and monsoon readiness, the state was left paralyzed within hours of rainfall, with waterlogging, overflowing drains, property damage, and no visible response from authorities. The GPCC has demanded a white paper on disaster management and drainage expenditure over the past five years, an independent third-party audit of all related public works, immediate compensation for all flood-affected families and businesses, and accountability from officials and ministers who ignored early warnings. Panjikar said the BJP government had failed Goans completely and urged Chief Minister Sawant to leave his “air-conditioned comfort” and witness the devastation firsthand. The Congress Party reaffirmed its commitment to standing with the people of Goa and pledged to continue exposing what it termed the government’s systemic failures.
