PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar on Friday launched a scathing attack on the BJP government over the handling of a ferry that has remained submerged at the Chorao ferry point in the Mandovi River for five days.
Patkar, who visited the site, called the incident a “dangerous symbol” of the government’s failure to prioritise public safety. He alleged that the River Navigation Department (RND) had issued no work order or contract to remove the sunken vessel even after five days, calling it evidence of the administration’s “corrupt and careless” functioning.
“This is not just negligence—it is clear evidence of how the corrupt BJP government continues to function without process, paperwork, or responsibility,” Patkar charged.
He accused Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and the BJP of focusing on publicity events and PR stunts instead of addressing pressing issues affecting Goans’ daily lives.
“This incident proves that for the BJP, public safety is not a priority. Accountability is non-existent. What is thriving under this regime is corruption, carelessness, and complete administrative breakdown,” he said.
Patkar called on the Chief Minister and RND Minister to “come clean” on the issue and accused the BJP of “playing with the lives of the people.”
“Under the BJP, Goa is sinking—not just its ferries, but its governance, systems, and dignity. Goa deserves better. Goans deserve answers—and the Congress Party will not rest until they get them,” he declared.
