BANASTARI: A newly recruited constable Rajat Adpaikar attached to the Mormugao police station has been suspended on charges of assaulting a Traffic Cell ASI at Banastarim on Wednesday.
Adpaikar has counter-alleged that he was assaulted initially by ASI Vivek Phadte of the Traffic Cell. Rajat Adpaikar was stopped by Phadte for allegedly breaking the Motor Vehicle Act by riding a motorcycle without a helmet, cutting lanes, and carrying an ostentatious number plate.
Phadte stated that Adapikar allegedly started abusing him when he was giving a challan. He further said that Adpaikar’s family members, who were accidentally travelling in a car, had stopped at the scene and had begun abusing him.
Adpaikar, on the other hand, defended himself by capturing the footage that showed Phadte slapping him first. Later, the video became widely popular on social media.
After receiving treatment at Goa Medical College Hospital, Phadte was eventually discharged from the hospital. It is said that Phadte and Adpaikar both made countercomplaints to the Mardol police station against one another.
In response to an ASI Phadte complaint, Mardol police opened a case against Adpaikar and his family members for allegedly attacking ASI Phadte while he was on official business. The case was filed under Sections 132, 352, 324 (2) R/W 3(5) BNS & Sec 194(D), CR. 6(4), 125(2), & 51 u/s 179 of the MV Act. Additional research is underway.
Superintendent of Police (South) Sunita Sawant then suspended Rajat Adpaikar, the police constable, for misbehaviour and neglect of duty.
