PANAJI: Two female police officers have been charged by the Goa Police’s Crime Branch with mental harassment and aiding and abetting the suicide of a 22-year-old police officer.
Police said that Priti Chawan, age 23, and Taniksha Chawan, age 21, are the accused. The Agasaim Police Station is connected to both. According to the police, they were taken into custody under section 108 of the BNS 2023.
On October 25, 2024, Prathamesh Gaude, a police constable of the Vasco Railway Police, is accused of jumping into the river from Zuari Bridge and killing himself.
In a video that he had shot prior to taking his own life, Prathamesh claimed that the harassment he had received from two female constables and their brother was the cause of his extreme action. On social media, the video had become very popular. Following the release of the footage, police took action.
Earlier this year, Prathamesh graduated from the Valpoi Police Training School and was assigned to the Vasco Railway Police Station.
