PANAJI: The government has formally designated a portion of National Highway-66 (NH-66), from Guirim Cross to Sangolda junction, as a construction zone for a duration of 18 months.
Various measures will be implemented in this segment, including the service roads, to ensure commuter and driver safety during the construction phase.
A new traffic diversion strategy has also been announced by the district magistrate to control vehicle flow during the development.
Cars going in the direction of Panaji will be diverted close to Mall de Goa, utilizing the service road after detouring via Chatrapati Shivaji Statue Road. This rerouting is a part of the attempts to lessen traffic while preserving a steady flow of cars.
Local buses, ambulances, and two-wheelers will be allowed to drive on either side of the highway in a six-meter-wide zone.
All other vehicles heading towards Panaji will be detoured from the Guirim underpass and driven to Sangolda in another two weeks.
The government and PWD are attempting to minimize any inconvenience to passengers while the elevated corridor project moves forward, all the while guaranteeing that the project is finished effectively.
This project is part of a bigger infrastructure update aimed at relieving traffic congestion and boosting connectivity in the region.
