MORMUGAO: The Office of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Mormugao Taluka, Vasco, is organizing a “Consumer Rights Awareness Fortnight” from April 1 to April 17, 2025, to educate citizens on their consumer rights and promote fair trade practices.
The inaugural function was held on April 1, 2025, at the Mormugao Civil Supplies Office in the presence of Chief Guest Amey Chopdekar, Councillor of Mormugao Municipal Council, Vasco Ward No. 18. The event was also attended by Tulshidas V. Dabholkar, Assistant Director, Civil Supplies, Mormugao Taluka, Ketan Faldesai, Assistant Director (HQ), and Sarita Morajkar, Inspector, Civil Supplies, Mormugao Taluka, along with other officials from the department.
As part of the awareness campaign, a consumer awareness drive was conducted at various Fair Price Shops in Vasco City, where consumers were informed about online ration card services and the importance of digital accessibility in public distribution systems.
Continuing the initiative, on April 3, 2025, an awareness drive-cum-inspection was carried out by Lilladhar Kumbharjuvekar, Inspector of Legal Metrology, Mormugao Taluka, along with his team and civil supplies officials. The drive was held at multiple shops near Apna Bazar, Vasco City. Consumers and shop owners were educated about their rights under the Legal Metrology Act and Rules, which ensure fair trade practices, accuracy in weights and measures, and consumer protection.
The awareness fortnight aims to empower consumers with knowledge about their rights, ensuring transparency, accountability, and ethical business practices. More such initiatives are planned throughout the campaign period to reach a wider audience.
