The Office of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Ponda Taluka, celebrated World Consumer Rights Day at the Balkalyan Ashram (Welfare Institution) in Talaulim, Ponda. The event, aimed at raising awareness about consumer rights, was held under the theme “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles.”
The program was graced by notable guests, including Dr. Gaurav Gopal Naik, Assistant Director of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Ponda Taluka, Sub-Inspector Shri. Deepak Naik, Balkalayan Ashram committee member Smt. Mrunal Samant, Ashram In-charge Shri. Balakrishna Shelke, and several other members.
Dr. Gaurav Naik addressed the attendees, particularly the students, highlighting the significance of consumers in promoting sustainable lifestyles. He elaborated on various consumer rights, such as the right to safety, right to be informed, right to choose, right to be heard, and the right to seek redressal. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of consumer education and the role of individuals in protecting their communities from frauds and scams.
As part of the celebration, a Poster Painting Competition on the theme “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles” was organized for the inmates. The competition saw enthusiastic participation, and the winners were recognized with trophies and certificates. Laxman B.K. of Shri. Sharda High School, Durbhat, won the first prize, while Dikshay Matondkar and Abhishek Naik, both from Shri Mahalaxmi English High School, Talaulim, Ponda, secured the second and third prizes, respectively.
Smt. Mrunal Samant, a committee member at Balkalayan Ashram, expressed her appreciation for the event, emphasizing the importance of educating the community on consumer rights and sustainable living practices.
The event was a valuable step in fostering awareness about the essential role consumers play in promoting sustainability and ensuring a fair marketplace. The vote of thanks was proposed by Balkrishna Shelke.
