PANAJI: Electricity consumers with meters installed inside their homes are required to shift them to an accessible spot outside their residence by November 28, according to a public notice issued by Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes.
The directive, based on Regulation 5.125 of the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission’s 2018 Supply Code, mandates that all meters be moved to a location on the consumer’s property that is easily reachable for meter reading and billing purposes, without being exposed to weather elements such as rain.
Consumers are instructed to first identify a suitable, sheltered spot for the meter and then promptly get in touch with the local sub-station office, as listed on their electricity bill, to initiate the relocation process.
Failure to comply with this directive by the specified deadline may result in the disconnection of electricity supply until the necessary changes are made.
Fernandes has also warned that penalties could be imposed for non-compliance.
