DABOLIM: Multiple water samples collected from areas under PHC Cortalim, including locations in Dabolim, have been found contaminated and unsafe for drinking, according to laboratory reports issued by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Environmental and Pollution Control Wing, Panaji.
The bacteriological examination of the samples recorded plate counts ranging around 175–200 per ml at 37°C and detected total coliform organisms at 14 MPN per 100 ml, indicating contamination. The laboratory remarks clearly state that the analysed water samples were contaminated by coliform organisms and therefore “cannot be recommended for human consumption as such.”
The reports were issued following samples referred by the Medical Officer of PHC Cortalim from different sampling points, including residential blocks and surrounding areas in Dabolim. The findings suggest possible bacterial contamination in the local water supply, raising concerns over public health and the need for immediate remedial measures.
Health authorities are expected to advise residents to avoid consuming untreated water and to ensure proper disinfection, while concerned departments may be required to inspect the supply lines and identify the source of contamination.
