CANACONA: A Mobile Bridge Inspection Unit (MBIU) team from Shri Infotech, Hyderabad, conducted a core cutting test on the ageing Saleri Bridge at Agonda to assess its strength and stability amid fears of collapse.
Using a crane-lowered platform, technicians extracted core samples from the 50-year-old, two-span bridge, which has visible cracks and a sunken section on the Khola side. The inspection required halting heavy vehicle traffic on the MDR-49 road for about two and a half hours, while two-wheelers were allowed to pass on one side. Police were deployed to manage the traffic disruption.
The Saleri Bridge is the only key link between Agonda and Khola villages. Despite public alarms and an earlier PWD inspection in February, no repairs or reinforcement work has yet been carried out.
